Aline’s Story
Registered Nurse
Cardiac Unit
Providence Health Care
“Every day, I feel confident that I made the right choice, both for my career and my future”.
Aline grew up in a small city in Brazil. She was drawn to nursing as she’s always had a deep desire to care for and help others. While she had a successful nursing career in Brazil, she was looking for a place that could offer a better quality of life and a greater sense of safety
She first visited Canada during an English exchange program in Toronto, and that experience sparked a strong desire to build a life in Canada. She chose British Columbia – specifically Vancouver – because of the high standard of living, strong health care system, and stunning natural environment. The lush landscapes reminded her of the nature she grew up with in her hometown, and the city offered a healthy balance between professional growth and personal well-being.
Aline moved to Vancouver in 2019, where she initially worked in customer service, while improving her English, which was quite basic when she arrived. The next year, Aline began a Post-Graduate Program for Internationally Educated Nurses. During this time, she worked as a caregiver and obtained her Health Care Assistant registration (in 2021), all while pursing the path to become a Registered Nurse in British Columbia.
Aline started the nursing credentialing and registration process with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives in August 2020 and proudly received her RN license in February 2024. Aline shares that the journey was not easy – she faced daily challenges – financial, physical, mental, and spiritual. One of her biggest barriers was achieving the required English language scores required to proceed with pursing her nursing registration in BC. Achieving the needed results required persistence, preparation, and time.
The journey truly tested her strength, but with unwavering faith and determination, she turned her dream into reality. Aline credits Health Match BC as being an exceptional support as they “guided me throughout the entire process – right up until I started working in the cardiac unit”. Aline thanks Health Match BC and the Health Authority Recruitment Lead for giving her the opportunity to shadow shifts before the formal interview process to help her understand the unit’s dynamics and culture, as it gave her the confidence to excel in the interview process.
Now that Aline is employed in a Cardiac Unit she loves working in a cardiac prevention program. Her role goes far beyond the bedside, it involves education, discharge planning, and helping patients safely transition back to their communities. She finds it deeply rewarding to know that she’s contributing to long-term health outcomes, not just immediate recovery. She truly appreciates how her leadership team prioritizes patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
For prospective nurses who are looking to move, Aline encourages them to follow their dreams. The journey is long, but she reminds them to celebrate milestones along the way. “Every day, I feel confident that I made the right choice, both for my career and my future”.
